“Striving for One Health in action in The Gambia” extends beyond research. We are committed to developing a comprehensive understanding of One Health awareness amongst stakeholders across government, academia and civil society in The Gambia.
OUR MISSION
Investigate and Enhance One Health Awareness: Our primary goal is to explore current One Health awareness, interpretation and prioritisation amongst key stakeholders in The Gambia, with an initial focus on policymakers.
Bridging Research-Policy Gaps: Identifying gaps in existing One Health frameworks and proposing sustainable and actionable solutions
Promoting Collaborative Efforts: Encouraging cross-sectoral and cross-societal collaborations to achieve a unified approach to optimise health of humans, animals and ecosystems.
METHODS
Qualitative and Participatory Research
Engaging participants through:
- Semi-structured interviews with One Health stakeholders across government, national and international health agencies, and academia.
- FGDs with farmer networks, veterinary paraprofessionals, community healthcare workers, and student groups.
Thematic Analysis
To identify themes of interview and FGD data, and compare One Health awareness and prioritisation between and within stakeholder groups.

Policy Briefing Document
To disseminate project findings and inform national One Health frameworks
Educational Tools
A collaborative effort between the research team and students, to promote discussion and awareness of the One Health concept at the higher education level
Stakeholder Event
To present project findings and provide a discussion forum for One Health stakeholders
